There’s something deeply humbling about realizing that the people you love most are also the people you can’t always protect. I felt that in a new way when I became a mom. For years, I had imagined what it would be like to hold my own child, but becoming a parent taught me that loving a family means carrying both joy and concern in the same heart. I can’t control every circumstance my family will face, but I can bring them before God in prayer.

Protect our marriage and family relationships. Help us communicate with kindness and honesty. Keep us from taking one another for granted. When life becomes busy, remind us that the people we love are more important than our endless lists of tasks.
Please watch over the children and young people in our family. Surround them with people who encourage wisdom, kindness, courage, and faith. Protect them from harmful relationships and influences. Help them make good decisions even when doing what is right feels difficult.
Lord, when my family faces sickness, give us strength and comfort. When someone is hurting emotionally, meet them with Your peace. When someone feels lost, guide them. When someone is afraid, remind them that they do not have to face fear alone.
Protect our home and make it a place of peace. Let it be a refuge where we can rest, speak honestly, forgive freely, and encourage one another. Keep our household from becoming controlled by fear, anger, or constant anxiety.

Nighttime can be a good opportunity to release the concerns you carried throughout the day. As you prepare to sleep, entrust your family to God rather than continuing to rehearse every possible problem in your mind.
You can also pray a shorter portion over your children or spouse before they go to sleep.
A Simple Way to Personalize This Family Protection Prayer
Friend, you do not have to use these exact words every time.
Take the prayer and make it personal.
Say the names of your spouse, children, grandchildren, parents, or siblings. Mention the specific concern that is weighing on you. If someone is struggling with a decision, pray specifically for wisdom. If someone is sick, bring that illness before God. If there is conflict, ask for humility and reconciliation.
And when you have no idea what to say, remember that you can simply begin with the person’s name.
